Marié Nobematsu-Le Gassic was born in Berkeley, CA. (1995) and raised between San Francisco and Tokyo. A broad background – ranging from ballet and pre-medical studies to advertising work – influences her multi-disciplinary practice. Since earning a B.A. (2018) in Urban Design & Architecture Studies (with a concentration in anthropological approaches) from New York University, Marié has moved to Berlin to participate in a year-long studio residency at the Berlin Art Institute (BAI) and as a guest at Weißensee Kunsthochschule, where she will continue to expand on urban research projects, as well as photography and sculpture. While film photographic work examines how various materials behave in certain environments, 3D concepts, realized through clay and plaster, employ this attention to texture to address politics of authenticity and representations of decay.
